AmmoDyn 12 Gauge 1-1/8oz 2.75" Rifled Slug High-Brass

A: No, and this is the single biggest point of confusion in shotgun ammunition. The "rifling" on a rifled slug is angled ribs on the outside of the lead body — they let the slug compress safely through a choke, they don't impart spin. A rifled slug stabilizes aerodynamically: its mass is forward, drag keeps it nose-first, same principle as a shuttlecock. This is a smoothbore load. If you have a fully rifled slug barrel, use sabot ammunition instead.

A: Through cylinder, improved cylinder, or modified — yes. The soft lead and compression ribs are engineered for safe compression through those chokes. Do not fire slugs through full or extra-full constrictions, and skip aftermarket turkey/waterfowl chokes unless the manufacturer specifically clears them. Improved cylinder is generally the sweet spot for both safety and accuracy.

A: For hunting, 75 yards with iron sights, 100 with an optic and a barrel that shoots slugs well. At 1,444 fps with almost no ballistic coefficient, drop shows up fast. A common approach: zero at 50 yards, hold appropriately at 75, and past 100 you should be reaching for a rifle instead.

A: A .308 Winchester bullet weighs 150 grains. A .45-70 load runs about 400. This slug beats both on mass, and at .72 caliber it's dramatically wider. Slower than a rifle bullet, absolutely — but the mass more than makes up for it inside 100 yards. That's why slugs are still a legitimate choice for large game.

A: Almost never, and the offset can be substantial. Slugs frequently print several inches from where the same gun centers a shot pattern. Zero specifically with your slug load, at the distance you'll actually shoot. That's why you buy them in quantity — so you can actually get dialed in before you need them.
